Elderberry Syrup for Kids, Made From Food You Can Recognise

Go and read the back of the bottle next to ours. That is the whole pitch.

If you are standing in the health food aisle comparing two or three brands right now, this page is for you. Drink Purple® is a wholefood elderberry and raw honey syrup made in small batches in Brisbane. Nine ingredients, all of which you could point to in a kitchen or a garden.

Here is exactly what is in it, what is not, how much to give, and how it stacks up against the gummies on the same shelf.

What is actually in the bottle

  • Elderberries. A powerful berry full of antioxidants that supports your immune system.
  • Raw honey. A prebiotic food that helps balance and nourish your gut health.
  • Cinnamon. A warming spice packed with polyphenols that supports daily vitality.
  • Clove. A rich source of antioxidants that naturally supports your wellbeing.
  • Ginger. A zesty root known for digestion, circulation and anti-inflammatory effects.
  • Rosehips. A natural vitamin C source that offers antioxidant and immune support.
  • Echinacea root. A well known herb that helps boost and strengthen immunity.
  • Lemon peel. A citrus rich source of bioflavonoids to enhance vitamin C absorption.
  • Sweet osmanthus ear glycolipids. A naturally derived preservative from an edible mushroom, used in small measured amounts to stop unwanted yeast, mould and bacteria growing and to protect freshness, quality and consistency.

That last one is the only ingredient that does not sound like food, so we wrote a whole page explaining it rather than hoping you would skim past. Every ingredient is broken down on our ingredients page.

What is not in it

  • No refined sugar added. Not less sugar. None added. Raw honey does the sweetening.
  • No artificial preservatives.
  • No artificial colours.
  • No artificial flavours.
  • No synthetic fillers.
  • Gluten free and free from common allergens.

We kept it simple on purpose. If we wouldn't give it to our own kids every day, it didn't make the cut.

What age can start

Drink Purple is suitable for children from 12 months and up.

It is not suitable for infants under 12 months, because it contains raw honey. That is a firm one, not a suggestion, and we would rather lose the sale than bury it.

It is also suitable for adults, which is the part most families do not expect. One bottle covers the whole house rather than just the kids. Supporting big and little immune systems alike.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, check with your healthcare provider before use.

How much and how often

  • Children 1 year and over: 1 teaspoon daily.
  • Adults: 1 tablespoon daily.

Straight from the spoon, mixed into water, juice or warm tea, or drizzled over breakfast or yoghurt.

Storage. Refrigerate after opening and consume within 2 months.

To give you a sense of how far a bottle goes, a 60ml Mini holds approximately four adult serves or approximately twelve children's serves.

Will they actually take it

This is the real question, and the honest answer is that most kids ask for it.

It tastes like berries, because it is berries and honey. There is no medicine flavour to disguise and nothing to hide it in.

Hello 👋 I'm Drink Purple. I live in the fridge.

Syrup or gummies, an honest comparison

Both sit on the same shelf, so it is worth knowing the difference.

Gummies are usually a standardised extract, which means the active is concentrated and then set into a sweetened base. They are convenient, they are portioned, and children like them because they taste like lollies. The tradeoff is that a gummy is a manufactured product with a longer ingredient list, and you are trusting the extract rather than the fruit.

Drink Purple is the fruit. Elderberries and raw honey, cooked down into a syrup, with gentle herbs and spices. Nine ingredients, short enough to read standing in the aisle. The tradeoff is that it lives in the fridge and you measure a teaspoon rather than counting out a gummy.

Neither is wrong. But if you want to hand your child something you can recognise as food, only one of those two is that.

Small batch, lab tested, made in Brisbane

  • Small batch made. Made here, in batches we can stand behind.
  • 100% natural. Just wholefoods. Nothing extra.
  • Wild harvested. Elderberries, not elderberry flavouring.
  • Lab tested. Every batch, so you are not taking our word for it.
  • No nasties. Nothing artificial, nothing synthetic.

Those five are printed on the front of every bottle, because they are the five things a parent checks before buying.
