Rosehips: Nature's Vitamin C, Not a Synthetic One

Most children's immunity products contain vitamin C. Very few of them get it from a plant.

What rosehips are

Rosehips are the fruit left behind after a rose flowers. They are one of the richest natural sources of vitamin C there is, and they offer antioxidant and immune support alongside it.

They have been used in households for generations, including as rosehip syrup handed out to children through the winter.

Why this matters on a label

When a product lists vitamin C, that usually means added ascorbic acid, which is synthesised in a factory. It works, and there is nothing sinister about it, but it is an isolated compound added to a base.

Rosehips are the whole fruit. The vitamin C comes with everything else that grew alongside it.

This is the difference between a formulation and a food, and it is the reason Drink Purple® has nine recognisable ingredients rather than a list of compounds.

Rosehips and lemon peel work together

Lemon peel is also in the blend, as a citrus rich source of bioflavonoids that enhance vitamin C absorption. That pairing is deliberate. The rosehips bring the vitamin C, the lemon peel helps the body make use of it.

Nothing in the bottle is there to pad it out.

Is it suitable for children

Yes. Drink Purple is suitable from 12 months and up, at one teaspoon daily. It is not suitable for infants under 12 months, because of the raw honey rather than the rosehips.

What else is in the bottle

Rosehips are one of nine ingredients. Have a look at what is inside Drink Purple, or read our full guide to elderberry syrup for kids.
