How Much Drink Purple for Each Age? A Simple Dosage Guide
This is the question we get asked most, in store and in our inbox. So here it is in one place, with no hedging.
The suggested serve
- Children 1 year and over: 1 teaspoon daily.
- Adults: 1 tablespoon daily.
That is it. One measurement for kids, one for grown ups, printed on every bottle so you are never guessing at the kitchen bench with a tired child on your hip.
Not for under 12 months
Drink Purple® contains raw honey, and honey is not recommended for babies under one year old. That is a firm rule, not a cautious brand disclaimer, and it applies to ours the same as to any other honey product.
If your baby is nearly one and you want something ready in the fridge for the day they get there, the 60ml Mini is a sensible size to start with.
How to give it
Straight from the spoon is the fastest and the one most kids ask for. It tastes like berries, because it is berries and honey.
If you would rather stretch it out, families also stir it into water, juice or warm tea, swirl it through yoghurt, or drizzle it over porridge and pancakes. It behaves like food because it is food.
Every day, or only when they are run down?
Most families keep a bottle in the fridge and make a daily purple sip part of the morning through the cooler months, then take it more often when everyone in the house is run down.
There is no wrong answer here. Some households do it year round, some start when the first cold snap arrives and stop when the weather turns. The habit matters more than the calendar.
How far does a bottle go
A 60ml Mini holds approximately four adult serves, or approximately twelve children's serves.
The 350ml bottle is the one that lives in the fridge and carries a household through the season. If more than one person in your house is having a daily sip, one bottle goes faster than most families plan for, which is why we put together bundles and value packs.
Storage
Refrigerate after opening and consume within 2 months.
Drink Purple has no artificial preservatives. It uses one naturally derived preservative from an edible mushroom, which we explain in full on our sweet osmanthus ear page. That protects the syrup, but it does not replace your fridge.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
Check with your healthcare provider before use. We would rather you ask than guess.
What is actually in a serve
Elderberries, raw honey, cinnamon, clove, ginger, rosehips, echinacea root, lemon peel, and the naturally derived preservative above. Nine ingredients, all of them explained one by one on our ingredients page.
No refined sugar added. Nothing artificial. Nothing you need to Google.
A daily purple sip, before the first sick day.
